Stochastic Resonance Control

Interaction Pattern

Overview

To support users with attention differences who benefit from a predictable sensory floor. What helps one group concentrate (specifically ADHD) can make it significantly harder for another, including many Autistic individuals, to engage. A single, fixed soundscape cannot therefore meet these opposing needs. Designing adjustable sensory environments acknowledges that regulation looks different for different people - and that supportive design means offering control rather than imposing a default.

Implementation Specification

An optional (can be toggled on/off) audio channel that plays a continuous loop of White, Pink, or Brown noise to mask environmental distractions. The user can adjust the volume of this channel independently from other audio channels, allowing them to find the optimal level of noise that helps them focus without being overwhelming.

Dependencies

Granular Environmental Control Behaviour: The Stochastic Resonance Control is implemented as an additional audio channel that can be independently adjusted or muted.

Interaction Patterns

The Sensory Dashboard: The Stochastic Resonance Control is integrated into the Sensory Dashboard, allowing users to easily access and customise their noise preferences.
